MAZIE

I could feel him with every fiber of my being. Even before Ari and I exited the car I knew he was there. I shouldered my bag and turned to face the gorgeous pain in the ass and couldn’t help but squeak in surprise. He was so close. His firm body pressed me back into my car as his strong arms caged me in. A couple of inches – that was all that separated our lips as I felt his breath fan over my face. His breathing was calm – regulated – while my chest heaved erratically with every gulp of air I wrestled into my lungs as I lost myself in his hypnotic blue eyes.

My hands reached into his open jacket and clung to his sides as he rested his forehead against mine. We stood in silence. Everything around us faded away so that there was only us. I couldn’t help but throw caution to the wind when he looked upon me with such tenderness in his gaze. Conner had a vulnerability that he only ever seemed to share with me. His trust in me was humbling and I treasured it. My fingers curled into his shirt wanting to hang onto this moment for dear life.

“I’ve missed you so much, súile donna.” There was so much caring packed into his whispered words that my eyes immediately started to water for what felt like the hundredth time that morning. My lids closed as I tried to unsuccessfully will the tears away. Conner then buried his face in the side of my neck and breathed deep. My hold on him tightened even more.

“Conner...” His name escaped as a raspy plea. The feeling of his large hands as they skimmed over my shoulders before cupping my dampened cheeks made me shiver. The look he gave as his thumbs wiped away the wet tracks on my face pierced into my soul. Love. Devotion. My knees shook. I was sure I would’ve collapsed if he hadn’t been holding me in place. His soft lips pressed against my brow before he pulled back to look into my eyes once more.

“I understand, you know, why you feel the need to keep space between us. I really do. You’re stubborn. You’re scared. You don’t see yourself the way that I do. I can’t change your views. Only you can.” His hands ran back over my shoulders and down my arms until he found my hands. I forced myself to release my death grip on his shirt and he immediately intertwined our fingers. “You are mine Mazie Nicole Wright. I know it. My wolf knows it. And in twelve days’ time you are going to know it without a shadow of any doubt. In the meantime, I will just have to sit back and count down the days until I can finally say ‘I told you so.’”

I scoffed at him and he flashed me the kind of grin that could turn any unsuspecting girl into a melted pile of goo.
